About Us

Who We Are

A small team, a real shopfront, and a lot of shelves.

Redwood Books is owned and operated by Solenn Cozic, and runs out of a converted brick storefront on North Meridian Avenue, a short drive from downtown Wichita. The day-to-day work — choosing titles, unpacking crates, answering emails, taping up parcels — is done by the same small team who read behind the counter when the store is quiet.

We are not a warehouse and we are not a marketplace. Every book you can order on this website sits on a shelf we walk past every morning. That constraint keeps our catalogue smaller than a big retailer's, but it also means we can vouch for what we sell.

Our Story

From a personal library to a public shelf.

Redwood Books started the way a lot of small bookstores start — with an overflowing home library, a lease on a modest storefront, and the stubborn belief that a well-chosen shelf can beat an algorithm. The shop opened its doors in Wichita to be the kind of bookstore we couldn't find nearby: unhurried, opinionated, and staffed by people who had actually read the books on the front table.

When customers from neighbouring towns started calling to ask whether we could mail out orders, we built this website so the shop could reach readers who live too far away to browse in person. The online catalogue is an extension of the physical store, not a replacement for it — the books ship from the same room where they are shelved.

Our Mission

Put good books into more hands, honestly.

Our mission is to make quality physical books easier to find and easier to buy for readers across the United States, without resorting to the small pressures that make online shopping exhausting — pop-up discounts, urgency counters, upsells, surprise fees at checkout. If a book is on our site, the price you see is the price you pay, and the description reflects a copy we could hand you across the counter.

We treat each order as a personal exchange between the shop and the reader who placed it. That framing is the reason the store exists, and it is what we come back to whenever we have to make a decision about how the site should work — from how we phrase a return policy to how we pack a hardcover for a January shipment to Vermont.

We won't overpromise, and we won't hide behind fine print. If something goes wrong with an order, we'll tell you and we'll make it right. That's the only way we know how to earn a customer's trust — and to deserve it on the next visit.

What We Believe

The values that show up in the small decisions.

Books should be described honestly. Cover images match the edition you'll receive, the format is stated on every product page, and we don't inflate categories to make a title feel more relevant than it is.

A bookstore's job is to recommend, not to sell harder. Our staff picks and shelf categories are the result of what our team is actually reading — not a marketing calendar.

Readers deserve a calm checkout. No countdown timers, no "1 person is viewing this" nudges, no dark patterns. You add books to the cart, you check the total, you pay. If you change your mind, closing the tab is a valid response.

Support means an actual person. Emails to support@redwoodbooks.store are read by the same team that runs the shop, not routed to a scripted contractor.

Thank you for supporting an independent bookstore.
