We ship real books from our Wichita, KS location to customers nationwide. Here's exactly how it works, with no surprises.

These are our actual shipping costs based on USPS Priority Mail rates for our typical package sizes. We don't mark up shipping for profit — we charge the carrier cost plus a minimal handling fee.

Processing & handling time

Handling time: 1–3 business days

  • We verify payment (usually same day)
  • We pick the book from our shelf (usually next business day)
  • We pack it carefully (usually day 2)
  • We hand it to USPS or UPS (usually day 3)
  • Maximum: 3 business days

Transit time: 2–5 business days

  • Local (Kansas): 2–3 days
  • Midwest: 2–4 days
  • East Coast: 3–5 days
  • West Coast: 3–5 days

Total time (order to doorstep): 3–8 business days. Most orders arrive within 5–6 business days. Business days exclude weekends and US federal holidays.

Tracking & updates

  • You receive a tracking number by email once we ship
  • Tracking is provided by USPS or UPS
  • Real-time updates and an estimated delivery date
  • Notifications when out for delivery and when delivered

If your order doesn't arrive

  2. Wait 2 business days after the estimated delivery date

Special situations

Hawaii & Alaska: add $8.00 to standard shipping. This reflects real USPS rates, not a profit markup.

International: we currently do not ship outside the United States. We'll update this policy if that changes.

Overnight / 2-day: not currently offered. Contact us if you need expedited service — we may be able to special-arrange in some cases.

Large / heavy orders: some books may not be shippable due to weight or size. You'll be notified before payment.

Weather / carrier delays: USPS and UPS may delay during severe weather. This is beyond our control and we cannot guarantee delivery dates in these situations.

Responsibility & claims

  • Our responsibility: accurate packing and on-time hand-off to the carrier
  • Carrier responsibility: actual delivery
  • Your responsibility: checking the package upon arrival

If a package is lost

We file a claim with the carrier. If the carrier is responsible we send a replacement. If the claim is denied, Redwood Books still covers the cost — you do not pay twice.

If a package arrives damaged

Contact us immediately with photos. We send a replacement or refund — no questions, no delays.

Insurance

We use carrier insurance for all orders, covering loss and damage up to the package value at no additional cost to you.
